Chevrolet Aveo will be discontinued this year
Chevrolet will discontinue the Aveo sedan and hatchback, which are sold under the Sonic name in the United States. The last copy will roll off the assembly line at the General Motors plant in October 2020.
The fact that Aveo/Sonic would soon become history became known back in 2018. Then General Motors, which owns Chevrolet, announced plans to abandon the production of passenger cars and focus on expanding the line of crossovers, SUVs and electric vehicles. Gradually, the Chevrolet Cruze, Impala and Volt disappeared from the market. Now it's Sonic's turn.

According to Carsalesbase.com, sales of the model in the United States have been declining year over year. For example, if in 2016 dealers sold 55.2 thousand Sonic units, then in 2019 sales collapsed to 13.9 cars. During the first quarter of 2020, the model sold 4.3 thousand units.
The history of Aveo began in 2002, and the design for the model was developed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. In different countries, hatchbacks and sedans were sold under the names Suzuki Swift+, Pontiac Wave, Holden Barina, Chevrolet Lova, Daewoo Kalos, Ravon Nexia and ZAZ Vida. The model changed generations in the USA in 2011.
