Ford launched the Mondeo off-road station wagon for testing

In Europe, 49,596 Mondeo units were purchased in 2018, and 20,715 in the first half of 2019. But the distant first generation in the late 1990s could boast of sales of more than 300,000 per year. In the US, Fusion's brother is also not doing well. In 2018, 173,600 Fusion cars were purchased, while back in 2014, 306,860 copies were found to have owners. Apparently, the company well calculated the market changes when in 2018 it announced that it would gradually get rid of sedans.

It turns out that the “new raised station wagon of 2021” promised in the summer, which will replace both the Mondeo and the S-Max and Galaxy in Europe at the same time, is not at all the Ford Focus Active Wagon, as it might seem. We were talking about a larger car, superior in length and wheelbase to the Focus by 20-25 centimeters.

In Europe, the new Mondeo will have a 1.5 turbocharged engine and a 2.0 EcoBlue diesel engine, plus hybrid versions. These could be moderate hybrids EcoBoost Hybrid/EcoBlue Hybrid, as well as a plug-in variation with an installation similar to that in the new generation Kuga Plug-In Hybrid crossover (2.5 naturally aspirated plus electric motor, 225 hp, 14 ,4 kW•h, 50 km without starting the internal combustion engine).

In the USA, Fusion's brother may have more serious engines, V6, for example. But here’s what’s curious: the older six-cylinder Sport version (V6 2.7 EcoBoost, 329 hp, 515 Nm) of the outgoing sedan of the same name has been eliminated for the 2020 model year. Compared to other versions, it looked a little expensive and was not popular. Fusion hybrids for the US are also quite predictable. But a fully electric version is not expected for the simple reason that this niche will be occupied by a separate new model on November 18: a battery-powered SUV in the style of a Mustang, apparently also tailored on the basis of the stretched “trolley” of the C2.
