Maserati showed teasers of the new Grecale crossover
Maserati has published its own spy photos of the Grecale crossover. The premiere of the new product should take place before the end of 2021. The car will be built on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio platform, and in size it will be only slightly inferior to the Levante.
The second Maserati crossover, named after the cold Mediterranean wind blowing from the island of Malta, will not be a smaller copy of the Levante. Insiders spoke about this last year. According to them, the difference in size between the models will be insignificant, and they will even position Grecale in its own niche, combining “sport and practicality.” The crossover will be built on an adapted Giorgio rear-wheel drive platform from Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, while the Levante is based on, although thoroughly modernized, Chrysler's LX.
But with the range of engines there are more uncertainties. The newcomer can either borrow Stelvio units, including the V6 2.9 biturbo engine from the Quadrifoglio version, or offer something new. One thing is certain: the six-cylinder Nettuno, developed in-house, will remain the prerogative of the MC20 and the Grecale will not get it. The crossover will also have a version with an all-electric powertrain - according to the plan, it will appear on the market in 2022. The Grecale will be assembled at the plant in Cassino, Italy, where the Stelvio and Giulia are produced. The amount of investment in the enterprise will be 800 million euros.

Meanwhile, Maserati has another premiere planned for this year - the hybrid Levante. It will most likely technically repeat the Ghibli Hybrid, that is, it will receive a 2.0 petrol turbo-four, a 48-volt belt-driven starter-generator and an e-Booster electric supercharger. On the Ghibli, such a system produces 330 hp. power and 450 Nm of torque, accelerating the sedan to “hundreds” in 5.7 seconds.
