Kia Stonic has changed its engine range

The planned restyling of the Kia Stonic was quite expected: firstly, the car entered the European market three years ago, and secondly, the Rio co-platform hatch was recently updated. Apparently, Kia plans to ensure demand for its new solutions in the field of power units, since Europeans liked the Stonic.

During production, the pre-restyling version sold more than 150 thousand copies. And now the crossover has become not only more modern, but also more environmentally friendly: its top-end power plant has turned into a “moderate hybrid”. The crossover version, called Stonic 1.0 T-GDI 120 EcoDynamics+, is now equipped with a liter turbocharged engine paired with an electric 48-volt superstructure and develops 120 hp.

The new engine is planned to be combined with two gearboxes, and traditional mechanics are not included in the list. Its role will be played by the recently announced iMT transmission, which is essentially the same manual box, the clutch of which is controlled by actuators. Accordingly, the driver does not have a third pedal. A seven-speed robot is optionally available, and in both versions the Stonic will receive a system for selecting operating modes of the driving electronics with three presets - Eco, Normal or Sport.

The gasoline engine itself has acquired a valve control system, now develops 16% more thrust and is available for the Stonic in a non-electric version with an output of 100 hp. It can now also be equipped with a robot, and the alternative manual transmission has six gears instead of the previous five. Finally, the basic 1.2 naturally aspirated engine received a new injection system, although its output has not changed and remains 84 hp.

Externally, the Kia Stonic has changed little: new head optics, new wheels and the ability to paint the roof in a contrasting color. The interior has a more modern multimedia system with an 8-inch display (previously there were only 7) and new functions, a larger display on the dashboard and new trim options.

The updated crossover will go on sale in the European market in the third quarter of this year.
